Sawtooth Camp

Peaceful Pine cones

Pine cones are a symbol of Sawtooth hospitality in many different ways;  however, we have divided them into two main topics.  The first is community and the second welcoming.  Together these two ideas make the pinecone an ideal image of hospitality in our daily lives.

Community is an integral part of our lives as a whole.  In a pinecone all parts are connected at a central point.  This represents the fellowship needed to create a well-rounded society.  All pieces are needed in order to function correctly.  If one is missing the whole cannot maintain its normal activities.

Pine cones also represent welcoming.  The seeds, when ready, spread to bring life to the desolate plains of Idaho.  This is the same case in our community and on a smaller scale, at Sawtooth Camp.  As one person is hospitable towards another, the action is reciprocated multiple times over.

In conclusion, we believe pine cones are a great example of hospitality. Their structure and purpose can represent interactions of people in the world.  Seeds spread like kind words exchanged between people.  These two concepts are what form the perfect natural utopia.
