Creation Vacation Grant
Creation Vacation camp for Salem Housing Authority residents just got a great boost with a grant of $3,000 from Trust Management Services of Waldport, OR.  Trust Management Services, LLS is organized to assist charitable organizations to make sound funding decisions and maximize responsible giving in Oregon.  TMS supports organizations with an emphasis on education, community service, cultural and youth activities.  Creation Vacation surely touches all of those areas of value to a community.
Thirty families have just been selected by the Family Stabilization Program of the Salem Housing Authority to be eligible to attend the June 29-July 2 Creation Vacation event at Camp Magruder.  Contact Brenna Norvall, brennanorval@yahoo.com , to volunteer as a Family Friend to assist these families at camp.  Financial contributions for Creation Vacation are also needed – the total budget for this event is $19,000.  Donations may be sent to the camping office designated for Creation Vacation.

Getting to Horse Camp: an idea
Email Beth Dieker at  bethd@diocese-oregon.org if you're interested in working out a carpool to Wallowa Lake Camp.

“You love me that much, that you’d send me to camp?”
These are the words that were spoken by a 3rd grader upon learning that she would get to go to camp for the first time.  Her Episcopal church had the funds set aside to pay for her fees and set up a sponsor to help her get to camp… something her parents could not provide for her.   The church office just called us to get this beautiful child of God and two siblings all signed up for camps.
Doesn’t it make you wish you could send every kid in the world to camp?  Let’s help connect as many children as we possibly can to these summer experiences of Christian community we know as church camp.  Reach out to the children in your church, neighborhood, extended family, and community – and then stay connected with them!  Be the adult who is remembered for having loved a child that much!

Alton L Collins Presents:   From Our Table to Yours
....this Saturday, April 26, 2008

Camp & Retreat Ministries Ecumenical update:
Did you notice our new heading?  The OR-ID United Methodist Church Conference is now working collaboratively with the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon to offer more programs to more people.  Leaders and campers from both denominations will be involved this summer.  Historically, we share a common heritage, of course.  When you visit Latgawa, Wallowa Lake, and/or Suttle Lake, ask the site directors about their involvement with both denominations (truth be known, we already have been sharing professional leadership in camp and retreat ministries!).
--Susan Delaney

Pastors & Youth Leaders:
Help us reach youth in your congregation -- especially if you're in a church with a small number of children or youth, or with no Sunday School or youth group that's regularly distributing camp information.  Help us get material into the hands of the children you care about, and their families.  Send in names and addresses, phone & e-mail addresses of any children or youth who you'd like to see get direct mailings of future camp opportunities. (Birth date info is really helpful, too)
We will not share this information!
--Catherine Healey (CatherineH@diocese-Oregon.org)  and Susan Delaney (susan@umoi.org)

Pastors, Secretaries and Camp Coordinators:
Here is a link to printable camp catalog materials for your members who do not have internet access and would like a printed listing.  To save your printer and ink, you may want to only print out the sections that apply for that person.  You can find these links later under "Resources and Articles" / "Resources for Churches."  Here they are:

You can now also find camp and denomination logos for your bulletins, flyers, and bulletin boards on the Resources for Churches page.

If you need any other resources to be available on the websites, please let us know!
Thanks,
--Susan Delaney & Beth Dieker

Wallowa Lake Hallowed Ground Family Camp begins July 20th
At Wallowa Lake Camp's Hallowed Ground Family Camp, you have the opportunity to meet elders and young people of the Nez Perce, Yakama, and Cayuse Nations and others.  Hear ancient stories, learn some of the art of beading and basket making, share in a friendship feast celebrating the tradition of salmon, roots, and herbs, learn basic language skills and words in the Nez Perce language. You can read more about this unique opportunity on the camp calendar at http://www.gocamping.org/calendar.php.  Scroll down the Wallowa Lake column and look for it listed during the week of July 20th, just prior to Chief Joseph Days.
See you there!

Latgawa volunteers add deck to Ephesus adult retreat building
A new deck, a perfect place for small group meetings and individual relaxation, was constructed last week by workers from the Ashland area led by Mark Jernigan and friends.  The workers also shared testimonies and fellowship with the Camp/Retreat Program Division meeting at Latgawa at the same time. This week, the home page of www.gocamping.org features a photo of the new deck!

Suttle Lake is saying goodbye to winter (slowly)!
As we welcome the sun of spring, there is still much snow to remind us of winter.  Our official "unofficial" report of snowfall is in with a total of 28 feet for the season, which is well over the average of 21 feet.  With quieter winters in recent years it sure felt like much more, but we are grateful that we did not approach the unofficial record of 50 feet!
Many enjoyed winter camps with 105 participating in the winter youth camp and 20 participating in the young adult retreat!  It's not too early to mark your calendars for next year:  Young Adult Retreat will be January 9-11, 2009
Youth Winter Retreat will be January 17-19, 2009
Family Winter Camp will be January 23-25, 2009

Note from David Cook:  These photos were taken on April 1st and show the total winter accumulation of snow.  We got about 1 inch on April 1.  The picture of Ingrid on the snow blower was as we were opening up a road back to the new yurt so the plumber can get started.
