Under God's Roof
our camp curriculum for 2008
We who today are concerned with the environment recognize first of all that the earth does not belong to us, but to God.
Daily Discoveries
Discovery 1:
Under God’s Roof, There Is a Strong Foundation
Focus: Jesus teaches that to be true disciples we must come to God, hear what God is saying, and act on God’s instructions, of which the most important is to love God and one another. It is upon the teachings of Jesus that we build a strong foundation of love, service, and action. Primary children can experience Jesus as a friend and can understand that he asks them to develop friendships with God and with others. Activities should focus on getting acquainted and feeling comfortable
at camp.
Scripture: Luke 6:46–49; Matthew 22:34–39
Discovery 2:Under God’s Roof, All Creation Lives Together
Focus: God created the universe and continues to create. God created human beings in the image of the divine Creator and charged them with taking care of the earth and of one another. God’s creation is interdependent, and so we must work together as the children of God under God’s roof.
Scripture: Psalm 104:10–24; Micah 6:6–8
Discovery 3:Under God’s Roof, We Are All Family
Focus: Although family members may set different priorities and possess different gifts, it is important that they help one another honor God. In order to be a family, it is more important to be disciples together than to be blood relatives.
Scripture: Luke 10:38–42; Luke 8:19–21
Discovery 4:Under God’s Roof, We Are Friends Together
Focus: Friends are those people with whom we choose to be in trusting relationships. They are people who help us to find comfort in the world by mutual caring. Jesus calls us his friend because he has shared with us his relationship with God.
Scripture: Mark 2:1–12, John 15:12–17
Discovery 5:Under God’s Roof, Strangers Are Welcome
Focus: Jesus teaches us that we should show hospitality to strangers. As you deal with this teaching for primary children remember that they are taught, with good reason, by parents and teachers to avoid strangers, so this lesson must be approached with some caution. Campers will learn that because all people are loved by God and are created in the image of God, we are to welcome all people as friends.
Scripture: Matthew 25:31–40
Discovery 6:Under God’s Roof, God Is at Home in Us!
Focus: As we prepare to leave the camp community that has been built this week, we can know that we do not go from this place alone. Although we may experience relationships with God and others in
different ways at home, we are still very much under God’s roof.
Scripture: Matthew 28:16–20; 1 Peter 2:4–10
